Happy 2nd Birthday Liana

Today Liana turned 2!DSC_0056 (800x532)

We had a nice day at home celebrating our "big" girls 2nd birthday.  She had lots of fun playing on her Dorothy the Dinosaur rocking horse which she loved.

It's nice to look back a see how blessed we are to have our wonderful girl turn 2 after being told she would not live past birth.  God is great.

Happy birthday Liana Jessica.

Liana's 'Big Heart'

4194 (683x1024) Last Friday we had our latest checkup for Liana's heart with the Cardiologist.

Again we got to see him in his Clinic in Penrith, so it was nice to have a short trip to Nepean Hospital.  Originally we were a little worried about the timing of the appointment due to Emily's due date, but as the caesarean happened a little early than originally thought it worked out ok.  We were all home from hospital and a little settled in.

We were also quite anxious about this appointment as last appointment Liana was quite stressed and upset.  The doctor hasn't been the best around her - and she has been very scared and not wanting anyone near her.  Last appointment he wasn't able to get such a good look at her heart because she was so upset and had said he would have to sedate her if she was the same this time.

Thankfully, Liana was very good, considering again the doctor didn't have the best manner for settling a two year old!  Julia and I managed to calm her enough on my lap, while the doctor was able to examine her heart in detail.

Thankfully, her heart looks much better.  This time the doctor could still see the mild coarctation of the aorta, but it didn't seem as severe as it had in the past.  He was very happy with it, and while she still could possibly need the surgery down the track, it was very less possible than the previous 50-50 chance.

Given Liana's turners syndrome and the fact that this coarctation is common for turners girls, this is very exciting and a huge blessing.  It's a huge relief not to have to continue to worry about her heart, although I still do a little.  God is definitely looking after her precious heart!

It's also is good news in that we can now look at discussing starting her on growth hormones at our next endocrinologist appointment.  Last time they were keen to start as soon as possible, but the only concern would be the affect that they could have on her heart condition.  Our cardiologist said he is happy for her to start as he doesn't believe it will cause any problems.

Very exciting to come away from the hospital with some great news for our little girl for once!

Introducing - Emily Charlotte Hall!

_EmilyCharlotte 208 Emily Charlotte (aka Baby #3) was born at Nepean Private Hospital on Tues 15th of July at 8:16am.

She weighed in at 3.4kg (7.8 pounds) and was 51cm in length.

She was born by caesarean and all went well for both Julia and Emily.

We were in hospital for 5 days coming home on Saturday evening.

It's nice being home now, although things are quite chaotic now that Lachy and Liana are also home having spent the week at Llandilo with Aunty Bec and Uncle Josh.

Emily is feeding very well and sleeps most of the time.  She still needs to settle into a routine as her awake/unsettled time is currently at 2am which is not helping our sleep!

She is very cute and cuddly and it's nice to have everyone home now.  Both Lachy and Liana love having their new Baby Sister around.  They both love to hold her and touch her and cuddle her.  We just have to watch Liana that she doesn't cuddle too hard!

You can see some more photos of our gorgeous girl in our photo album.

The Birth

We were booked in to arrive at the hospital at 6am on Tuesday.  So that meant More...

New niece - welcome Bethany

IMG_1661 Bethany was born on 28th May weighing in at 3.2kg.  She was born over at Canterbury hospital just down the road from Matt and Alicia's place.  We got to go over and see them all at home which was nice.  It was nice for Lachy and Liana to see their new cousin (plus Uncle Matt was cooking pancakes!).

Here's a picture of mum and bub doing great.

Congrats guys!

SQL Table Lock

I've had a bunch of issues lately that have been related to poor database performance.  I'll admit, a lot of the time this has been caused by badly written stored procedures (mine of course!).  It also happens occassionly on our development server, when someone is running a script and forgets to commit a transaction.

Now not being a DBA I tend to just fumble my way through a few system calls and tables to try and find why the database tables get locked and how to fix.  I find myself using the sp_lock and sp_who2 system sprocs a whole lot more which is a bit scary.

Anyway, below is a script that shows me nicely all the current table locks in the database, and more importantly which user connection has caused the lock!

--- locking start
declare @lock table
(
 spid int,
 dbid int,
 objid int,
 IndId int,
 Type varchar(50),
 Resource varchar(200),
 Mode varchar(100),
 Status varchar(100)
)
declare @who table
(
 spid int,
 status varchar(100),
 Login varchar(100),
 HostName varchar(100),
 BlkBy varchar(50),
 DBName varchar(50),
 Command varchar(100),
 CPUTime int,
 DiskIO int,
 LastBatch varchar(50),
 ProgramName varchar(200),
 SPID2 int,
 RequestID int
)

insert into @lock
exec sp_lock
insert into @who
exec sp_who2

select o.name, w.*,a.*
from @lock a
 inner join sysobjects o on o.id = a.objid
 inner join @who w on w.spid = a.spid
where a.Type = 'TAB'
--- locking end
